• The composition and size of an icon: a scene, or multiple figures, takes more time and effort to write.
• The Amount of gold elements on the icon: just a gold halo, or a halo with embellishments like embossing (design patterns on the gold). Some icons are written with an entirely gold background, which requires more material and time.
• icons written on wood with raised borders (kovcheg), as making such boards is more labor intensive, versus flat board icons. (A fully prepared solid wood board with braces and a kovcheg for an icon sized 7.5 by 9.5 inches is about 90$ just for the board)
