Iconography Talks
OVERVIEW OF ICONOGRAPHIC TRADITION. Iconography is integral and inseparable from Orthodox Christian Church liturgical tradition and a prayer life of an Orthodox Christian in general. It has evolved through the ages starting 1st AD to present and yet stayed true to the canons of the church, with the focus on spiritual rather than material life. In this talk, we will summarize the historical evolution of this liturgical visual art, starting from the Catacombs, Iconoclasm, Iconographical “Renaissance”, to present days. We will look at the symbols, colors and gestures, and finally will get insights into the “iconographer studio”, starting from the creation of an icon board, materials used in actual painting and varnishing, iconography techniques and approaches.

Icon Painting Workshops
One day introductory workshop
In this full day workshop, you will write your own icon, following step-by-step instructions. This will be an introduction to icon-writing, where explanation will be mixed with presentation, and followed by individual instruction.
We will be working with acrylics, the material which dries faster then Egg Tempera, and thus will allow us to take a closer look at an icon creation in one day.
